Dark Deceit by Lauren Dawes

Title: Dark Deceit   Dark Deceit

If you like any form of Mythology this book will certainly appeal to you! This is a story with a thread of revenge running throughout it, starting with Odin’s punishment and imprisonment of Loki, then quickly moving on to the present day. The Aesir gods are no longer venerated by humans, indeed the gods and associated beings like the Valkyrie and dark elves all live unrecognised among the humans.

The last full-blooded dark elf is Korvain and he is sent on a mission to kill the beautiful, fabled, leader of the Valkyrie, Bryn, so that his boss can kill Odin. Chemistry between Korvain and Bryn is rampant but if he fails to kill her, Korvain knows he will die. The conundrum of choices he and other characters experience make this an enthralling read. It is well written, moving seamlessly from one character’s point of view to that of another, helping the reader understand and empathise with their motivation and reactions to each other throughout the story.

This is a fast paced, lively read with murder, unlikely alliances, regret, mystery, mythology and romance all written into a powerful book, the first in the series. I can’t wait to read the next one to find out what happens to these characters and others! Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
