This book celebrates the family of one boy for the previous four generations. It is arranged so reading from the front of the book you trace his family on his father’s side and, starting from the back, you trace his family from his mother’s side. Members of his family from both sides are introduced and shared before they In the middle they all come together to show the boy’s family tree from both sides in the middle of the book!
This is a great way to introduce the idea of family trees, heritage and to show how different generations are essential to lead to the current one. The illustrations also show images of the generations in era appropriate clothing and situations, reinforcing the historical aspects of the book. Parents and teachers could use this as a great way to get children interested in their own heritage and I particularly like the multi-racial aspects involved in this book.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
