Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!
Hi! I am Charlie J. Ross. I am 11 years old and going into 6th grade. I live in the United States in the State of Michigan and this is my book review of:
“The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan, Book I in the Percy Jackson series.
The Lightening Thief introduces us to Percy Jackson. He is 12 years old. The story opens with Percy in his classroom. When Percy’s class takes a field trip to a museum, his teacher calls him into one of the back rooms and begins to attack him. His friend, Grover and another teacher, Chiron, manage to save Percy from the attack.
Percy’s friend Grover is a protector and a stayr. A stayr is a half-goat, half-man.
Grover protects Percy and takes him to his mother. From his mother Percy learns that Percy’s father is no ordinary man—his father is Poseidon, God of the Sea. This makes Percy half mortal, half-God, also called a demigod. Percy has special powers. He can breathe under water and summon water.
Grover tells Percy that he was attacked because Zeus, the God of Lightening, thinks Percy stole his lightening bolt. Percy’s mom tells him that he is not safe anymore and that he needs to go to camp-half blood and become trained in self-defense so that he can protect himself.
While Percy is at camp half blood, Hades comes down and demands that Percy give the lightening bolt back. Hades shows Percy that he has taken his mother hostage.
Percy and his friends work to find out who really took Zeus’ lightening bolt so that they can save Percy’s mom.
I gave this book five stars because it is so good, very exciting and hilarious. Once I started reading this book, I didn’t want to stop. My favorite boy character is Percy because he’s hilarious, really cool and brave. My favorite girl character is Annabeth because she’s really smart and really funny. She acts like she knows absolutely everything. I also really liked camp half blood. At camp half blood each demigod has his own cabin. The ending of the book is happy but also suspenseful. It makes you wonder what’s going to happen next because Percy still isn’t completely safe and there are still people after him.
I hope you get a chance to read this book!
