Marianne McBride is a computer geek and nerdy but wants to change from her horned rimmed glasses, cardigan and tweed skirt image to something …. something sexier! Somehow she’s ended up ditching her ‘good’ girl image to jump out of a cake and sing “Happy Birthday” to Nick Wright, the brother of her boss and the man she’s been fantasising for much more than she’d ever admit! Nick is a serial dater, determined to fall for no woman but then his cake girl kisses him and he finds himself feeling all protective of her and wanting to get to know her.Unfortunately for him, Marianne’s bravery deserts her after the kiss and she runs away….
Nick needs to find someone to pretend to be his fiancée to ensure he gets the promotion to partner that he’s striving for so long to achieve. Unfortunately he’s been falsely accused of having an affair with a married woman and having a fiancee would really help negate this. He believes he knows just how to get someone – he’ll ask his sister, who has an excellent reputation and business as a matchmaker – to help. When she suggests Marianne he’s not certain he’ll be able to convince his colleagues that he’s fallen for her but when he sees her at the gym and when they kiss he’s not so sure he’ll be able to actually avoid falling for real! Living together for six weeks, no dating, no sex and follow the rules? Love will find a way of striking out the rules and making way for romance between them.
This is a great story where events from the past, honesty, attraction and false accusations will all have serious impacts on the lives and loves of the people concerned. There’s intrigue, possible blackmail and romance galore in this funny story which is a great one to escape into. Well written, with a nerdy heroine who proves she’s so much more, a faux fiancee and a hero who’s determined never to love, then does! A lovely read relaxing in the sun for me!
