I couldn’t write a review straight away after finishing this book because I couldn’t see through the tears (of joy). This is a really moving second chance romance with so many twists and turns you doubt it reaching a HEA after all until very near the end. It is a heartwarming tale of love lost, reconnected and new opportunities but with obstacles to overcome first.
Katie Warham is dreading Christmas with her family. They won’t all be there because she recently lost her beloved grandmother who she’d been very close to, she’s not sure how she’s going to cope with her diverse family, their mix of judgemental attitudes, crazy behaviour and reactions. When she finally arrives to find the man she’s never been able to forget, the one she judges all others against and finds them wanting, her ex-boyfriend, is also there – with his two children – she’s even more perplexed. He’s now a widower and the attraction between them is at least as strong. Is there any chance of rekindling their love or are there just too many risks involved? Should they take a chance on love?
What a great story to curl up with, though you’ll probably not want to put it down till you’ve finished reading it. It is well written with a superb selection of complex characters with interactions which cover the full gamut of emotions. There are some hilarious, laugh out loud moments, others are heart wrenching. Throughout the emotive writing makes it so easy to empathise with the emotions of the characters, you feel there hurt, pain, turmoil and love. Even the children are brilliantly portrayed!
The plot has nothing straightforward in it – there are many past events and attitudes explained, surprises, shocks, discoveries and announcements to keep the reader turning the pages to find out what happens next. I’ll certainly be looking out for more by this author in future! This is a keeper, a great story that I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys a very moving romance.
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too for provided an ARC for me to read in exchange for this, my honest review.
