Woodland Creek Series

30 Authors. 30 Shifter Stories

DW 400Established author and black dragon shifter, Cayden Rienhardt, has watched over the beautiful and very human, Nyna Carter, most of her life. But he never entertained the idea of more until recently. When an ex-lover from Nyna’s past comes back to Woodland Creek and makes it clear she plans to spend her life with Nyna, Cayden’s dragon forces him to break his silence and make a move to cast his magical web. But he could get more than he ever bargained for in the process.

Eighteen months ago, lone cat shifter Kara Mitchell inadvertently witnessed the murder of her best friend’s parents. When she fled the scene to contact the police, she was captured and held prisoner, forcing her to leave Nyna and her life behind with no explanation. Now that she’s escaped her captors, she returns to Woodland Creek to help Nyna find closure and stop the murderer, but things aren’t as she remembered. Not only is there a rift between her and Nyna, there’s a very sexy dragon shifter complicating matters.

Stuck in a web of lies, scandal, and a tantalizing love triangle, Nyna isn’t sure whom to trust. Her heart wants both Kara and Cayden, but they each have secrets. When Kara reveals that someone close to Nyna is responsible for her parents’ murders, her love life becomes secondary to the investigation. She is determined to find out the truth. Even if it means that her life will change forever.

My review:

This is a brilliant combination of paranormal murder, mystery and romance. As with all this author’s books, there is a strong alpha hero and both leading ladies are feisty and strong in their own unique ways.

In this case the hero is a black dragon shifter called Cayden Reinhardt who is determined to protect his mate, or in this case mates! Nina Carter is very human but Cayden’s dragon recognises her as his mate. She, however has had a traumatic eighteen months, first with her parents being murdered and then with her lover, cat shifter Kara Mitchell disappearing without explanation. It turns out that Kara was catnapped and held captive because she witnessed the murders being committed and, on her return to Woodland Creek she is desperate to help rekindle their love, protect Nina and ensure the murderer is brought to justice without being recaptured again. Kara’s return means that Cayden needs to reveal his love to Nina but little could he anticipate what happens next – and you’ll need to read it yourself to find out!

This is a delectable novella with strong, well developed characters, a love triangle and a murderer to be captured. It is well paced, with plenty of action, angst and turmoil as secrets are revealed, another murder committed and their journey towards their HEA begins. If you enjoy paranormal tales with much more than instant love this is one you’re likely to enjoy and one I have no hesitation in recommending.

Thanks to the author, publisher, Barclay Publicity and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
