Review: Destination Thailand by Katy Colins

Title: Destination Thailand, The Lonely Hearts Travel Club #1Destination Thailand

Author: Katy Colins

Publisher: Carina UK

Size: 384 pages

Release Date: December 16th, 2015

Rating: 4/5

After being jilted by her two timing fiancé just before their planned wedding and sacked from her job, Georgia is reevaluating her life. Taken away to Turkey by her best friend, Marie, she makes a bucket list of things she’s like to do and is encouraged to go for it!

Events conspire to help naive Georgia set out for the adventure of her life backpacking in Thailand. Needless to say, nothing goes quite as planned, with an untrustworthy tour guide, teasing, unsupportive travel companions, bugs to eat, drunken mistakes, double crossers and so much more this is certainly one traumatic way to ‘find yourself’!

This is a superbly written novel that transports the reader into Georgia’s adventure. I admit to feeling like warning her at times about the stupidity of her decisions but that’s all part of the appeal of this story. She’s so gullible she’s bound to be a victim of the unscrupulous but the journey has a powerful and very positive impact on her life, desires and attitude.

If you enjoy stories that have you wanting to interact with the characters, to guide and encourage them – and warn them when they’re being stupid – you’ll love seeing how Georgia grows in personality and confidence through the story and meeting the wide range of other fantastic characters on her journey through life. I want to know how the Lonely Hearts Travel Club develops, how the characters and relationships continue to develop and new places that will be visited that I can, through the story, journey there with them. It is a really enthralling page turner and a brilliant start to a new series. I can’t wait to read the sequels, ‘Destination India’ and ‘Destination Chile’!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
