This is the third ‘Friends First’ novel and has the third of the Esterly brothers, Jared, as the male lead. Jared has been best friends with Nick for most of his life, spending a significant proportion of his holiday and weekend time with Nick Hall and his family and now working with him in the business they have co-founded. Nick had a nerdy little sister, Allison, who has grown into a still nerdy geek who works for them. Allison, however, is fed up with being ‘invisible’ and is determined to give herself a makeover to give herself a chance at dating and finding love. She asks her brother for help but he just denies she has any need of improvement so she goes and asks Jared. Whilst he initially refuses, after a make up debacle, he takes her under his wing to help her like a good family friend would . . . except as this ugly duckling becomes a swan the attraction between the two also grows! With Nick acting the overprotective big brother, the lifelong friendship in dire danger and hormones running rampant, will they have a chance for their love to develop?
It is great to catch up with the brothers again and to get to know more about Jared. Big brother Nick is really the stumbling block for both characters, will they be able to put their attraction above that of their individual relationships with him? The reluctance of the pair to acknowledge their changing relationship and familial interactions and attitudes are well portrayed in this enjoyable, lighthearted read which has some really humorous moments in it!
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
Allison Hall is fed up with being a social outcast. Even at the tech company where she works for her brother and his best friend, Jared, she’s the invisible nerdy girl. What she needs is confidence—and that requires a makeover and dating tips. And she knows just the man to help…
Jared Esterly is shocked when Allison asks for his assistance and turns her down, knowing that her brother—his business partner and best friend, Nick—would kill him if he dated her, even if it is just for practice. But when Al’s attempt to make changes on her own fails spectacularly, Jared reluctantly steps in. Things heat up quickly, and soon lessons move from the salon to the bedroom.
When overprotective big-brother Nick discovers Jared is dating Allison, their friendship and business partnership sour. Allison, consumed by guilt, must make a choice: stay with Jared, even though that means ruining his friendship with Nick and possibly his career, or leave the one man who sets her on fire.
