Remaining together may change Adelaide’s very definition of home—and expose one searing secret that could forever shift the balance of power in Zayne’s world.
I’ll be quite honest and say I loved this story and look forward to reading more in the series in future. I’d read ‘Her Unexpected Detour’ by this author before but that is a contemporary romance so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect after reading the book description and discovering this is a paranormal fantasy with dragon shifters in it but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The characters are well developed, the plot has plenty of twists and turns, it even involves royalty!
Adelaide Miller, aka Addie, has had a dreadful childhood, learning to take refuge behind the lens of her camera so effectively that she’s now travelled from her home in the US to England after being commissioned to make good use of her camera skills, a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a name for herself as a photographer. Whilst out jogging she is almost run down but instead falls down an embankment – and into a strange new world where she’ll be attacked by wolves, rescued by a golden dragon shifter, discover two kingdoms in danger of being a war, deception, danger, adventure and romance.
Prince Zayne Godfrey is the only golden dragon shifter left and his father has arranged for him to marry the princess from the adjoining kingdom in an attempt to bring peace to both kingdoms. When he rescues Addie he finds his mate but he’s due to marry his betrothed…. Should he let his heart or his head rule his decisions? Do he and his new love have any chance of a HEA? What does she feel – and where is she really from?
There are plenty of mysteries to be solved, secrets to be uncovered and dangers to be faced in this enthralling read. With a knight/dragon in shining/golden armour, a wizard, a wicked princess and, of course, more dragon shifters, in an alternative world with secrets to be revealed this is a brilliant start to a new paranormal series and makes it one I have no hesitation in highly recommending to other lovers of this genre. I’ll certainly be looking out to read the sequels!
