This is a lovely, feel good story set in the village of Westfield in Yorkshire, England with a couple of visits to London, too. It comes complete with a fabulous group of ladies who like to organise everyone and everything, the lady who is in charge of everything and the younger couple who are the targets of their matchmaking.
Amanda Perry was a hardworking lawyer, but her heart really isn’t in the job. When she’s sacked for making a mistake (that she really didn’t make), she decides it is time for her to change her life. She sells her London home and buys a small shop and flat in a Yorkshire village. She names her shop ‘A New Lease of Life’ and hopes the change will be just that for her, too. Now the older ladies of the village determine to try their hands at matchmaking her with the local vet, Ben Evans and the fun begins!
This is a story of village life with eccentric characters striving to keep the village buzzing, fund raising, matchmaking and organising a wide variety of different groups. They are at the heart of the village, working to improve everyone’s lot. The interactions, their planning and scheming are brilliant, adding many laugh out loud moments to the story. There are a few twists and turns to keep the reader enthralled and it is a fun, lighthearted story of a close community and, of course, romance, a delightful story to escape into.
Thanks to the publishers for inviting me to read an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
Amanda is making the idyllic escape to the countryside to find a new life. Ben is picking up the pieces of his life after his wife left. Could a chance encounter outside Amanda’s ‘chic boutique’ set them on the road to renewed happiness?
