My Review:

What a great second chance romance! When local golden girl Emma Walker had a night to remember with local bad boy and her secret crush Cam Brantley just before he went off on another tour of duty neither had envisaged their being any consequences . . . but there were! Emma has refused to say who the father of her mischievous daughter, Zoey, is but when Cam returns to town she knows it isn’t fair to keep her existence secret from him, especially as she is project managing the design and build of the resort he and his brother are currently having built. How will he react? Will he want to have anything to do with his daughter? Will she be able to resist his magnetic attraction or will time have faded it?

Filled with angst and turmoil this is a sweet second chance romance which has the reader really hoping things can work out for the town’s misnamed bad boy. He was blamed for so much as a teen that wasn’t his fault, he was more hero than villain. The story explores the impact of his physically abusive upbringing by his alcoholic father, his abandonment by his runaway mother and his determined protection of his younger brother. Then there’s the impact of being abandoned by both her parents for Emma and being warned not to choose a bad boy because…. The small town gossips, camaraderie and caring as well as downright nosiness are also key elements of the story.

Whilst this is the third novel in the series, I haven’t read the others and this story worked well as a standalone. The characters are well portrayed – I loved Emma’s Grandmother! The story is told from the points of view of the two main characters and whilst much of the plot was predictable it is still a lovely engaging romance to put a smile on your face and great to escape into!

Thanks to the publishers for gifting me an ARC of this novel, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis:

There are certain words that have always described Cam Brantley: Town bad boy. Soldier. Protector. But never, ever dad. Until he returns home from his latest military tour to discover the girl he had one smoking-hot night with is now mom to the adorable two-year-old Zoey. Who has his eyes.

Plenty of words could describe Emma Walker these days. Mom, dutiful granddaughter, budding designer, the town’s golden child. But when her longtime crush Cam Brantley comes back to town, she knows the perfect word to describe herself: screwed.

Cam and Emma are both shocked to discover he truly wants Zoey in his life. But Cam’s not sure he’s ready to be a dad, and Emma can’t gamble her daughter on maybes. As the long-simmering heat between Cam and Emma reaches a boiling point, he’ll have to work past his demons in order to be the man both girls need.
