Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!
When Claire Bradshaw decides to end her dead-end relationship of several years, she only has one place to go – back home to the tiny town of Palmetto Park. Claire keeps bumping into people from her past as she struggles to shake her “better than everybody” reputation, make peace with her enemies, and even attempts to rekindle an old flame. Claire gets to know her old friends all over again and gets to know more about herself as she starts over – right back where it all started.
Buy the Book:
After a decade together, Clarissa Jean Bradshaw (aka Claire) knows things aren’t going well in their relationship but spotting her partner kissing and claiming to love someone else at the New Year party was the final straw. She never says a word, just quietly packs up her things and leaves the bustling city to return to her childhood home, the small town of Palmetto Park, where her parents and family live. As she tries to reconnect with her school friends, she finds her teenage attitude is well remembered – not necessarily a good thing! Gaining acceptance, making more friends and starting again are all on the cards . . . as it the possibility of a much better romance, but only if she recognises the opportunities and breaks down the barriers created by her previous attitude.
This is a great second chance romance – though the romance isn’t with her teenage crush! A major element of the story is how behaviour as a teen impacts on how Claire is regarded by her contemporaries on her return and how she seeks to show that she really has changed since she has grown older. It explores how sometimes attitudes to others can change completely with maturity and at other times they grow and deepen. As friendships are rekindled, new roles explored and new beginnings initiated, Clarissa Jean finds that sometimes love is there, if only you open your eyes and heart to recognise it!
Many thanks to the author and Hello Chick Lit for gifting me an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
