My Review:

With each table forming a story told in rhyme
This is a great way to learn your tables in double quick time
Each table is an adventure, often funny, too
Sharing just what Naughty Katie has gone to do
With a table answer on every alternating line
Rhyming with the story really is just fine
Helping make the tables memorable and fun
For children, adults – in fact for everyone!
Share the story at bedtime, an adult reading to start
And children joining in for the times table part
With repetition, laughs and adventures read
A great way to learn tables whilst going to bed!
It could be a useful extra way for teachers to
Inspire their pupils especially those struggling who
May respond to this alternative way
Learning as they hear about Naughty Katie’s adventures and play.

Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too,
For letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis:

Do you struggle to learn times tables? Learn your times tables using an inventive new method created by Lorraine Reed, which involves so much more than simply reciting figures! Join Naughty Katie and her younger sister Misty as they show you that maths can be fun. Author and mother Lorraine feels that not all children find mathematics interesting enough to stimulate their brain, but knows that children can find hearing and reading stories much more fun. With this in mind, she has written Times Tables Fun with Naughty Katie, which utilises a more interactive method of learning. In early 2016, the BBC announced a new scheme that will see every pupil in England being tested on their times tables before they leave primary school. By the age of 11, they will now be expected to know their tables all the way up to 12×12 and will be tested using a computer. These checks will be piloted to about 3,000 pupils in 80 primary schools in summer 2017, before being rolled out across the country later next year.

In Lorraine’s new book, as well as learning the times tables up to 12×12, readers will follow the story of Katie, a very naughty little girl who likes nothing more than teasing her younger sister Misty and causing havoc! Being read as a bed-time story each night, children will enjoy Katie and Misty’s adventures whilst learning their time tables in a fun way, with the nightly repetition speeding up the learning process. Times Tables Fun with Naughty Katie will appeal to children and adults who struggle with traditional learning methods

A very good comprehensive review of a book which is sure to help children with their times tables. I particularly liked the rhyming aspect of the review. Of interest is the idea that children will be tested on their times tables up to 12 x 12, as this is what happened many years ago, before liberal ideas of education devalued our system.

Glad you liked my review, Bruce,
And you agree the book will be of use.
I just thought I’d share that all children I’ve taught
Learnt tables to 12 times 12 from nought
Some of us older teachers and many new
Never stopped at ten – and never will do!
As you liked the review being in rhyme
Thought my reply should also be this time 🙂

I agree 100% with you about teaching tables. I’m glad the government is reintroducing learning tables in schools. Thanks for the comments in prose.
