Review: In The Eye of the Storm by Robert Thier

Title: In The Eye of the Storm  In the Eye of the Storm

Series: Storm and Silence #1

Author and Publisher: Robert Thier

Rating: 5/5

My Review:

Wow – I know I enjoyed the first book in this series but this sequel is an equally intriguing read, set mainly in Egypt, with bandits, deception, danger and camels!

Lillian (Lily) Linton still strives to achieve independence in an era where this is definitely not the norm  Having obtained a job working for Mr Rikkard Ambrose she is determined to keep it and prove her worthy of the position – even though she has to pretend to be a man most of the time to keep the job. Mr Ambrose, however, is a rich entrepreneurial business man who expects his dour, domineering manner to get him what he wants and he certainly doesn’t appreciated Lily repeatedly getting the better of him! As in the first novel, the interactions between the two are laugh out loud hilarious, spiked with mutual attraction and key to the reader’s enjoyment of the whole story.

After the dramatic ending of the first novel, this one picks up and continues the story in a manner which takes the reader straight back into the thick of the action. Lily has little time to settle back into ‘normal’ life again before Mr Ambrose discovers that political intrigue and sabotage are still prevalent, necessitating this unlikely couple travelling to Egypt to carry out investigations in an effort to thwart to perpetrators. For once, Lily will be able to show herself to be a young lady – but that won’t stop their enemies from seeking them out! With bombs, guns, assassination attempts, a wedding ring, travelling incognito and so much more, this is an action packed, decidedly different adventure in the Victorian era. It is fast paced, emotively portrayed and is a real roller coaster plot with so many surprise elements it will keep the reader enthralled wondering just what will happen next!

This is the second story in the series and, for once, I highly recommend reading them in sequential order. Once more I have no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone who enjoys well crafted historic adventures, filled with fast paced adventures, including ones in the Egyptian desert, a feisty female, obstinate man and mystery as well as a touch of romance. I do hope there will be a sequel to this!

Many thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this brilliant novel in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis:

Egypt… land of romance, mystery, and exploding camels. Lilly Linton thought she’d be ready for anything after one month of working for her boss – cold, calculating businessman Rikkard Ambrose. But when they embark on a perilous hunt through the desert, she has to face dangers beyond anything she has encountered before: deadly storms, marauding bandits, and worst of all, a wedding ring!

Can the desert’s heat truly be enough to melt the cold heart of Britain’s richest financier?
