My Review:

This is a very steamy read with a very basic plot. Although it is Valentine’s Day, hard working, honour student, eighteen year old Corazón Gomez (aka Cora) is working when her childhood friend and crush walks in oozing sex appeal as far as she’s concerned. The attraction is mutual and so starts a very hot, secret affair with a pre-set time limit – she’s leaving town, escaping to college. What happens when anyone finds out? What happens when she leaves to go to college? You’ll have to read it yourself to find out!

Personally, some of this just felt wrong. He’s a real cad. He’s been stood up so goes into the ice cream parlour and demands Cora serves him even though she’s closing up. He tells her he’s been ditched then suggests they go for a ride in his truck. An eighteen year old who is determined to leave her small hometown behind her, working so hard to get to college and keeping her virginity, in fact she’s never even been kissed, just doesn’t seem likely to go off with someone she’s not seen for four years to have sex with him in his truck – and that wasn’t a joyous union, he totally ignored/didn’t notice her pain or discomfort, seeking only his own release!   I also didn’t like her being a smoker – as I typed, some of it just felt wrong! The ending resolves it somewhat and earned the story the two stars I’ve given it!

If you enjoy novellas which are packed with erotica, you may well enjoy this. There were just too many things in it that seemed inappropriate for me to appreciate it and I prefer more character development and plot – but that’s just me. Hope others enjoy it, just not a good read for me, sorry!

Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis:

Forget chocolate and flowers. This homegrown honey is all the sweetness he craves.

Small-town life is nothing but a waiting room for eighteen-year-old honor student Corazón Gomez. Work and school leave little time for love, but with a full-ride Ivy League scholarship and a one-way ticket out of the boondocks, who needs it?

The answer appears on Valentine’s Day when her old cowboy crush ambles into the ice cream parlor where she works, inviting her to go on a late-night ride in his truck. For the first time she wavers between staying on the straight and narrow, and going off-road with the handsome heartbreaker.

After four years working on ranches all over the country, Caleb MacKinnon is back on the family farm helping out his mom and brothers while his father fights cancer. The one bright spot: smart, funny, and wickedly sexy Cora.

From the start, they both know this blazing-hot love affair can’t last. But when autumn comes and Cora has to leave for the East Coast, Caleb must find a solution to keep himself—and his heart—from falling apart.

Warning: Contains hard, cherry-poppin’ sex in a pickup truck and a cowboy charmer who talks dirty in two languages.
