My Review:
Another great Regency romance, this time with Lady Elizabeth Worthington and Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir, as the couple that others have thwarted the romance between. Can they discover who interceded to their detriment as they are reunited after three years or will their mutual enemy achieve his own dreams instead?
Orphaned, Henry had been brought up in the same household as Elizabeth because her father was his guardian. Whilst there, the two had become close, planning to marry when he returned from America where he went to make his fortune. Unfortunately, soon after he left Elizabeth discovered she was expecting his child. Letters were exchanged, urging him to return but to no avail, he’d have nothing to do with her. Fearing the scandal that would ensue, Elizabeth had married but shortly after her husband died. Now Henry has returned and claims no knowledge of any correspondence between them – and obviously is ignorant of the fact that he has a son. Now, however, an unexpected foe makes his desires known, threatening any chance of reconciliation or romance between the two. Can they overcome their past differences and reignite their romance? Will their enemy succeed in keeping them apart?
This is a story where past errors separated the lovers and her hidden pregnancy and deceptions may keep them apart for ever. Their despicable foe will stop at nothing to get Elizabeth to be his wife and the story is packed with angst and turmoil – including a carriage chase – as things come to a head. It is an action packed novel with blackmail, double dealing, deception and love interwoven into a brilliant novel to start a new series. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical romances where the power of love is tested and proves victorious over the nefarious schemes endeavouring to thwart it.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis:
The reigning queen of London society, Lady Elizabeth Worthingham, has her future set out for her. Marry well, and marry without love. An easy promise to make and one she owed her family after her near ruinous past that threatened them all. And the rakish scoundrel Henry Andrews, Earl of Muir who’s inability to act a gentleman when she needed one most would one day pay for his treachery.
Returning to England after three years abroad, Henry is determined to make the only woman who captured his heart his wife. But the icy reception he receives from Elizabeth is colder than his home in the Scottish highlands. As past hurts surface and deception runs as thick as blood, so too does a love that will overcome all obstacles, unless a nameless foe, determined with his own path, gets his way and their love never sees the light of day…
