My Review:

This is a highly complex, intriguing and decidedly different story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It is told from the point of view of Irina Proffer who starts having visions after purchasing a strange deck of tarot cards. She is unaware of the meaning of the cards but the visions lead her to travel to find the people she seen in them. Weird things continue to happen to her – like a strange man finding her a job which also comes with a choice of accommodation. As she starts work, she starts to discover that everything isn’t necessarily as it seems. There are other people with different variations of talent, different abilities and skills, all being employed or tested in the company she works for. As she becomes more uncomfortable with what she finds out, she starts to distrust the motives and actions of her employer.

With a potential love triangle added to the mix, this isn’t a sweet romance, more a mystery thriller with paranormally talented individuals endeavouring to create a safe life for themselves and others like them in a world which seems determined to use, abuse and not accept them. As the global company makes moves this is not just a local problem and there is definitely much more to come. This is an intriguing start to a science fiction mystery thriller with a little romantic interest added to the mix. It will be interesting to see how this develops, especially after how this one ends!

I received a free copy of this book via Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review.

Irina Proffer leaves mundane small-town life behind when she experiences visions inspired by a strange deck of tarot cards. To get answers, she travels from her northern British Columbia home to the province’s coastal capital. She quickly discovers a world of fringe genetic science and supernatural mystery.

Working for Innoviro Industries, Irina is drawn in by a powerful first love and compelling, yet dangerous questions about the nature of the company’s business. Meeting other ‘variants’ brings Irina closer and closer to the dark truth about her origins. She finds herself at the heart of two overlapping love triangles as she scrambles to escape her employer’s grip.

Before she leaves the city, Irina realizes she has merely scratched the surface of a frightening conspiracy on a global scale.
