Harriet Anderson was nicknamed the Ice Queen but personal and family drama has melted her protective layer, she’s suffered emotionally and has ditched her high powered job to go work in a Swiss hotel as a waitress, giving herself time to recover her equilibrium. However, her first task involves serving Philippe Smith his coffee. His arrogant, abrasive manner rubs her up the wrong way and some of her spark returns. He’s there writing his second novel and trying to escape a broken relationship, recover from a serious, life changing injury and hiding from the paparazzi . . . but he’d lost his inspiration till he sees Harriet. Fate throws the two together but also puts obstacles in their way. As ex-partners return, emotional blackmail, the press and life in general seems to determined to keep the two apart. Can love find a way to heal them and give them their HEA together?
I can’t believe this is a debut novel. I am so impressed by the way the author skilfully takes the reader into the story, brilliantly bringing to life the characters in an easy to relate to manner. There are superb secondary characters in the story – especially Sophie, Becky, Toby and, of course, Elspeth. It involves some emotive scenarios, particularly relating the the loss of a parent, coping with life after serious injuries, the impact of alcoholism on everyone concerned as well as the pressure of being in the media spotlight can put on ‘celebrities’ and those they relate to. This story had me hooked from the start. I didn’t want to put it down till I’d finished it. One thing is certain, I’ll Never Again hesitate to grab an opportunity to read anything by this highly talented author. Needless to say, I highly recommend this emotional romance.
I was gifted an ARC of this novel.
