Review revisited: Christmas at Lilac Cottage by Holly Martin

Having thoroughly enjoyed both Juniper Island festive stories by Holly Martin this year, I also remember feeling just as enamoured with her White Cliff Bay books last year . . . so here is a reminder of one of these fabulous festive reads!

I had enjoyed reading ‘Fairytale Beginnings’ by Holly Martin so when I spotted this book I was eager to read it – and it is even better – simply brilliant! The tag for the books states ‘A perfect romance to curl up by the fire with’ and it is so true! The author brings her characters to life in a charismatic, easy to relate to manner. I loved reading about Penny, Henry and Daisy! The plot is an encapsulation of life with all its twists and turns – from single parenthood, sexual harassment, starting a new school, starting a new job, power cuts, life threatening events to name but a few but they are told with such insight, empathy and humour that this just has to be one of the most entertaining books to escape into during the festive season.

There are events in the book that had me laughing out loud so much that I had to share excerpts of the story with my husband to explain why I was giggling. The sense of community – everyone looking out for each other so they’re sometimes too nosey or judgemental but always caring – is there in the charming seaside town of White Cliff Bay and shared throughout the story. Things do go wrong, there are obstacles to achieving a HEA, how these are overcome is what makes this such a riveting, amusing and enthralling read.

This is a delicious recipe for a delightful festive read and one that I advise anyone who enjoys a superbly written, heartwarming, small community story with their romance go get this book asap!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for this, an honest review.
