This is a fantastic book, especially for the Christmas season, but still great at other times of year, too. As a teenager, Megan’s mother had particularly high expectations of her daughter – talk about a pushy mother! Her goal was to get Megan to Cambridge University and she made Megan do all kinds of extra classes in her endeavour to get her there. Unfortunately this wasn’t totally Megan’s dream although she still strived to achieve it so she would please her parents. The pressures put on her had an unplanned consequence – Megan split with her irresistible boyfriend, Lucas Bright, and to prove they’d split had a one night stand with another lad, becoming pregnant in the process. To put it mildly, Megan’s parents aren’t supportive of her and she leaves home. Ten years later Megan is persuaded by her Aunt Anna, with whom she and Skye have been living for most of that time, to go home for Christmas, taking her delightful, precocious daughter, Skye, with her to meet her grandparents for the first time.
The interplay of emotions felt by Megan as she agrees to go stay with her parents and then meets up with her fabulous ex-boyfriend make this a cracker of a story. The characters are brilliantly portrayed, as are the conflicting emotions they feel, making them feel real to the reader. I enjoyed how the author included flashbacks to earlier events that impact on current ones. This is a superbly written and totally enjoyable story I have no hesitation recommending to anyone who likes to get lost in a contemporary romance. I’ll certainly be looking out for more books by this author!
