My Review:

This story has so many twists and turns than wool takes in a complex knitting pattern but the end product is a well fitting and great read! It is an enthralling serial killer police crime thriller with an intricate, convoluted but well structured plot and a strong female lead police detective with secrets from her past which impinge on the case and make it very personal.

This is a page turner where the less than salubrious past of this detective is brought to the forefront by a serial killer whose victims are usually mothers who have given up a daughter for adoption, or people connected to the other victims. Ruby has so many secrets in her life, I’m not going to reveal them here as they’d probably be spoilers, but suffice it to say they include criminal connections, her own daughter, a sexual liaison and her mother – but not all at the same time!

This is the first book in a new series featuring Ruby as the lead detective investigator. Set in London her past, present and future are definitely on a collision course in this story! I look forward to reading more from this author in future and recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading murder/mystery/police procedural novels where sometimes rules are a little more flexible than usual!
