Interview with Deborah King, author of Daring Dreamer #AuthorInterview #Spotlight #BlogTour

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book earlier this year so I am especially pleased to welcome Deborah King today and would like to thank her for kindly answering my questions – read on to see what she replied, discover more about her book Daring Dreamer and to enter a giveaway to win a paperback copy of it!

Where did you get the inspiration for the book/series?

Daring Dreamer and the remaining books in the Inspiration in Cologne series are filled with my passions. I have also lived in a rural area for a few years and found the distinct differences of city/rural living intriguing. I knew I would enjoy writing about a small town setting.

What is your writing process?

I begin my novels by organizing the idea and characters for my story. This process is called ‘mind mapping’ or ‘clustering.’  I then structure an outline to my story and begin writing. When I finish writing my story, I read through the manuscript, add or delete scenes, and then send it to my multi-talented editor. Let’s say there are no rewrites, which brings my editor and me to the final proofreading stage.

Do you write using pen and paper or on a computer?

I relax in my favorite comfy chair and write using pencil and a legal pad. I don’t enjoy sitting in front of the computer all day because I get antsy. I normally begin writing in the early evening and finish around ten or eleven o’clock at night.

Who is your favourite character out of your stories and why?

I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite character. I’ve spent years with them and they all have their own virtues, strengths, and vulnerabilities.

If you were a character in your story, which would you like to be?

I would choose to be a young girl in book two, who will remain nameless for now, because she has her whole life ahead of her. I wish I would have known at a young age that I wanted to be a writer.

How and why did you choose the names for your main characters?

First, I think about the characters’ unique personalities before I choose their names. In my mind, my characters’ names match their personalities.

I’ve also had my advanced readers’ group on Facebook pick a couple of my main characters’ names in a poll.

Thank you so much for answering my questions!

Synopsis:

Two best friends. Two fresh starts. Will old regrets sabotage their second chance?

Janna’s heart is heavy with grief and broken by betrayal. But as she leaves the big city for a quaint midwestern town, the future feels less frightening with her best friend, Shelby, by her side. After landing a job in the local fresh market and the attentions of a handsome architect, she may yet learn to heal old scars…

Shelby loves the position Janna secured for her and the new sense of community, but wishes small-town life wasn’t so lonely. After packing up all she could salvage from her painful past, she endures more than her fair share of bumps on the winding road to recovery. Afraid her heart may be too damaged for real love, she drowns her sorrows in drunken nights at bars.
