The Perfect Moment by Alix Kelso

Is there ever a perfect moment to begin again in life?

Ever since tragedy threw her life into turmoil, Laura has taken refuge at her waitressing job in Valentino’s restaurant in Glasgow’s leafy Fairhill. Serving lattes and lunch specials means she’s too busy to think about all she lost, or the dreams she was forced to abandon. So when her beloved boss announces she’s selling the business, Laura is devastated. Hatching a plan to set her up with the local pub owner, Laura hopes the two of them will make a connection that might just change her mind.

Recovering from betrayal and heartbreak, Bruce is also in hiding from the world, and working in his uncle’s pub while he wonders how to restart his life. When Laura asks for help with her matchmaking scheme, he finds himself unable to refuse. She has a smile he can’t resist, no matter how much he wants to.

But as their plan is set in motion, the matchmakers begin falling for each other. Yet Laura thinks she’s happy with her dull boyfriend, and Bruce won’t risk another broken heart. As the future of Valentino’s hangs in the balance, can these two lost and lonely people find the perfect moment to start their lives again together?

Treat yourself to THE PERFECT MOMENT, a sweet, funny, emotional romance about new beginnings and being brave enough to follow your heart.

My Review:

This is a lovely story of overcoming obstacles and finding the strength and courage to follow your dreams…..

Following the tragic death of both her parents, Laura gave up on her dreams, sold the family home and started working as a waitress at Valentino’s restaurant in Fairhill, Glasgow. There she’s settled and not looking for change, especially as the couple who own the restaurant are like family to her now. However that all changes when her boss dies and his wife decides to sell the business. Unsettled by the imminent change, Laura decides to act as matchmaker, little realising the impact her schemes will have on her own life!

Bruce is, like Laura, hiding from the world. In his case, he’s been betrayed and is finding it difficult to decide what to do next so he’s killing time by working at his Uncle’s pub whilst he decides. He’s a somewhat reluctant aid in Laura’s matchmaking endeavours but he can’t resist helping her . . . and so the fun begins!

This is a story of considering your options, re-evaluating your options and being daring enough to take another chance on love and life. Not everything works out as you’d hope, but that’s life and there are always obstacles to be overcome, set backs to learn from and dreams to be fulfilled. The story has great characters and some incidents that had me laughing out loud whilst many others at least brought a smile to my face. It is a heartwarming story of community, family, friendship and love that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and have no hesitation in highly recommending. I am so happy to discover it is the first in a new series set around the Fairhill area of Glasgow and I can’t wait to reading more and hopefully catch up on some of these characters again!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Author Bio

Alix Kelso is the author of the Fairhill novel series. She’s happiest with her nose in a book and has been known to lash out dangerously if disturbed while reading. Having previously worked as a shop assistant, waitress, hospital cleaner and dishwasher, she eventually became a university lecturer. Although she loved the academic world of teaching and researching and helping her students, she always enjoyed writing stories in her spare time and finally decided to pursue her dream of publishing a novel and becoming a full time writer.

She lives in her home city of Glasgow with her husband and their rescue lurcher, Maggie. She enjoys pottering in the kitchen, walking in Glasgow’s many lovely parks, and is a firm believer in the therapeutic benefits of a long lunch with a big glass of wine.
