My Review:

I had read and thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, A Son for the Texas Cowboy so was keen to read this sequel to it. The first book concentrates on Axel and Cruz’s story whilst this one is focussed on the third/fourth chance romance between Axel’s brother, August, and Catalina. They grew up on neighbouring properties but Catalina often escaped her abusive father and bullying brothers by spending time with August and his family. The two have a long term on/off relationship that has been off for some time. However, when he is injured she is the person he immediately calls. She rushes home to him and so their chance to rekindle their romance and work together begins. However, nothing will be straightforward for this couple. Their past experiences together, her family, the opportunities now available and the attraction between them will all play an important role in this story but he’s going to have to work hard to regain her trust and love.

This is a heartwarming romance with great characters, many of whom were in the first book, too. I still believe it would work as a standalone as the background information is provided throughout this one. It is a story of recognising your own faults, learning to be honest and share, taking care of each other and working together as well as love. It involves growing up, healing, honesty and romance. This one left me still asking questions about Catalina’s family – they were so threatening and abusive to her early on in the story but then seemed to just disappear. I’m presuming there’ll be further revelations in future stories in this series. I look forward to reading more about the Wolf Brothers in future!

Many thanks to Tule Publishing for gifting me a copy of this book without obligation. This is my honest review after choosing to read it and enjoying doing so!

Synopsis:

She names an impossible price…

August Wolf is back home on his family’s Texas ranch for good this time, and he has a lot to prove. He’s taken his inherited portion of the ranch as far from the family’s famed longhorn legacy as possible, but a devastating accident throws his plans and his life in jeopardy. August doesn’t have the word ‘quit’ in his vocabulary even when he has to reach out and beg for help from the woman least likely to answer his call – his furious and broken-hearted ex.

Last Stand is the last town winemaker Catalina Clemmens wants to return to, and August Wolf is the last man she wants to see. And work for him? Never. But when an injured August stands before her and begs, Cat sees a chance to finally have some closure on their long, fraught history, the soul searing lust and her love that still burns brightly. She names a price she knows he’ll never pay.

But August says yes… and then he ups the ante
