Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!
They didn’t believe in holiday magic… until it happens to them.
Anna McKinnon is a free spirit. As a bartender in New York City, she answers to no one, keeps what she calls “vampire hours” – and likes it that way. She secretly wishes to find real love, the forever kind her brothers have all found. But love has not only eluded her, it’s burned her badly. Keeping things light is how Anna copes.
David Beren is a high-powered, intense investment banker in the heart of Manhattan. His 80-hour work weeks took over his life long ago, but now, at 35, he’s ready for something more. But what? And then he meets Anna. She’s unexpected – full of light, color, and laughter. Anna knocks him off his game and his feet, and he’s never been happier.
Can total opposites – a feisty, bold girl from Ireland and a quiet, straight-laced Jewish guy from New Jersey – find love at the holidays? With the double whammy of a Hanukkah miracle and some Christmas magic, they just might.
This is a lovely story of opposites attracting! Take one hard working, goal orientated investment banker, who regularly works 80 hour weeks and have him meet a feisty, colourful, laughing bartender who really isn’t sure what her goals are. This is either a match made in heaven or doomed to failure . . . and you’re not always sure just which way things will turn out. Add in that he’s from a straight-laced Jewish family and she’s from Ireland, working in her brother’s bar at unsocial hours and the mix gets even more complicated. The attraction is mutual but will their differences tear them apart?
I really enjoyed reading this, with the couple celebrating festivals from each other’s religions, helping share their experiences and generally having fun during the festivities. It is a delightful easy-read, sexy romance with a couple who make mistakes along the way but delightfully grow closer often because of acknowledging those mistakes. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this to anyone who enjoys festive romances where opposites attract.
I requested and was gifted a copy of this book from the publishers and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so. I’m definitely anticipating the festivities now!
