Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!
Today I’m happy to welcome Segun Starchild here and say thank you for answering my questions! Read on to read discover his answers, more about his book and himself as well as an opportunity for UK entrants to win a T-shirt!
Where did you get the inspiration for the book/series?
I loved the #thedress saga, the arguments, the science, and it going viral. I wanted it to continue, it was bloody amazing so I thought that writing a book about it would be a good way to continue the story and introduce new concepts.
What is your writing process?
I tend to go with the flow, take one step at a time. I start off with my own idea of what the story should be and when I get into the meat of the story, I find the story writes itself and I’m just the person bringing it to life. Writing a book is a long and arduous process so it’s important to break it into small chunks and not get overwhelmed.
Do you write using pen and paper or on a computer?
Who writes using pen and paper in 2019 lol? I use a computer so I don’t have to type it up again and I can make direct edits in the second and third draft. I do use a pen and paper if I feel like making notes on my sofa or somewhere relaxing and I let my mind wander.
Who is your favourite character out of your stories and why?
Oooh, it’d have to be Angie Martinez from The White & Gold People. She’s a man-eater, she’s fiesty, unpredictable, full of life and a perfect best friend for Laura Golding. I suppose I wanted to make them opposite but similar enough to be friends, to highlight the differences between the Goldies and Blueys.
If you were a character in your story, which would you like to be?
Lol! I already am, as LaShawn. He’s a pretty cool dude if I say so myself. J
How and why did you give the characters their roles in the story?
I wanted each person to have a critical part in the story, to represent different types of people and a distinct enough character to mimic what would happen if this actually took place. I wanted to use popular names that you could identify with them and names that I felt identified their character.
How far do you think you can go in writing?
I think I can go very far!!! As a black and independent writer, I know the odds are against me, but I believe in hard work and talent, and once my book gets in the right circles I’m looking forward to bestselling status, movie deals, worldwide translations and more!
What are you watching on Netflix?
The Walking Dead, it’s the tenth series, one my favourite series of all time. I also loved Spartacus, Homeland and The Originals. TV is one of my favourite ways to relax. When I get more free time, I’ll get back into gaming.
