Day One: Festive Guest Post: Favourite Festive Films by Victoria Walters

by Victoria Walters

Thanks so much for having me on your blog!

Favourite Festive Films
I have a massive soft spot for Christmas especially cheesy films that make you feel all cosy and festive, and I’m already counting down the days until I bring them all out again this year. I mention several of my favourites in my new novel Coming Home to Glendale Hall and I hope you all have fun looking out for them as you read it.
So, curl up on the sofa with a big bowl of popcorn, and make your way through these treats …
The Holiday –
Despite being annoyed Jude Law has never just knocked on my front door, this is the perfect festive romance to put a smile on your face in the run-up to Christmas!
Home Alone 1 & 2 –
family comedy classics that never get old.Although you wish you could just give Kevin a mobile phone haha!

Elf –
Full of Christmas madness, and bags of heart, it’s so festive it hurts. Also any film that ends with everyone singing get bonus points in my book.
Serendipity –  always a massive yes to cheesy romances that take place in New York at Christmas.

Love Actually – I always see lots of people saying how rubbish this film is when December rolls around but I still watch it every year!
Gavin and Stacey Xmas Special – okay a little cheat as it was made for TV and not technically a film but I just adore it, and probably know every single word.
While You Were Sleeping – Such a cute rom com with lots of festive loveliness, and I love Sandra Bullock.

It’s a Wonderful Life – Always nice to watch an old film at Christmas and this one is all about kindness so you can’t help but feel happy at the end of it.
My top Christmas film, and one that I rewatch every year, is The Muppets Christmas Carol! It is just so lovely, and actually pretty faithful to the Dickens original, and the songs are perfect! I always feel like Christmas has arrived when I put it on.
What are your favourite festive films?
Please feel free to share your favourites in the comments!
Here’s information about Victoria’s latest festive story, ‘Coming Home to Glendale Hall’. It was following sharing my review of this book that we exchanged tweets and the idea for these festive guests posts was shared – so thanks for starting the idea off together with Kiley Dunbar, whose post about her ‘Family Christmas Traditions’ was shared here.

No matter how far you go, home is where the heart is…

Beth Williams hasn’t been home for ten years. After falling pregnant at sixteen, she ran away from the imposing Scottish estate where she grew up rather than risk her family’s disapproval, working hard to build a life for herself and daughter Isabelle – but now she’s finally returning to Glendale Hall.

As Beth tries to mend her broken family ties, and fights to bring the community of Glendale back together, she realises that the story she has told herself for a decade might well be a very different one from the truth. Even though she ran from Glendale it has never left her heart. And, she soon realises, neither has Drew – Beth’s first love.

Will Beth be able to forgive her mother and grandmother (and herself) for what happened ten years ago? What will Drew say when he discovers the secret she’s been keeping from him for so long? Can a festive trail bring the village back together?

Will Christmas work its magic on Glendale – or will Beth be forced to run away from it all over again?

A charming, uplifting novel that will warm your heart – the perfect read to curl up with this autumn. Fans of Trisha Ashley, Debbie Johnson and Cathy Bramley will love this gorgeously romantic read.
