Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!
This is the fourth story in A Little Hotel in Cornwall series and proved to be another intriguing read!
Maisie is a budding author who travelled from the US in the hope of convincing her favourite but reclusive, mysterious author to agree to mentor her. Through a variety of misunderstandings, Maisie ended up working as a maid at the hotel under an assumed name. Making friends in the hotel and nearby visit – including a special supportive friend and potential love.
She’s still working at the hotel when a prestigious, exclusive auction is planned to be held there. When, despite security measures being in place, priceless diamonds and other memorabilia are stolen, Maisie is the initial suspect as she discovers the theft. However, it is Maisie’s friend Sidney who is taken into custody by the police. Maisie is determined to clear his name, working with others to search for evidence to prove his innocence. In doing so, she uncovers much more than she’d expected and faces a real dilemma over an offer she is made, one that she has dreamt of. What will she choose? You’ll have to read it for yourself to discover the answer!
It was great to catch up on what has been happening to so many now familiar characters. The mystery has plenty of twists to keep you guessing and the ending has me keen to be able to read the next book in this series to discover what happens to Maisie next! This is a fantastic, fascinating addition to this great series, an intriguing mystery with potential romance. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading any sequels. I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.
As spring slips away from the hotel Penmarrow, excitement builds for an exclusive auction hosted at the hotel, featuring priceless possessions from a Hollywood actress turned lady of the manor, including her famous diamonds. Celebrities and collectors form a crowd that is keeping Maisie and the rest of staff busy, even as Maisie faces a crossroads for her manuscript.
But when the diamonds are stolen and Sidney is accused by the authorities, Maisie’s dilemma as a writer is pushed aside out of fear that his future in Port Hewer is in jeopardy. Desperation to prove that someone else is behind the theft will lead Maisie to uncover a very different secret outside of jewel thieves and village rumors … one that could change her life and her future forever.
Can Maisie deal with the latest secrets exposed — including those that paint Sidney’s past in a questionable light? And as summer’s dawn alters her idyllic life in Cornwall, will Maisie’s feelings for Sidney change as well?
