My Review:

I am loving escaping into the Book Lovers series and this book was no exception! It is the third book in this series but would probably still work well as a standalone, though characters and relationships formed in the first two books are continued in this one. This time it is the turn of Bryony Nightingale who was devastated when her childhood sweetheart, Ben Stratton, suddenly decided to leave to travel the world. He did ask her to go with him but didn’t explain why he needed to go . . . . but now, six years later, he’s back and wants to talk to her. Bryony is terrified, confused, heartbroken, uncertain, conflicted and wary. She doesn’t want to risk her heart again and can’t see how she can accept Ben’s return now……

What an emotive read this proved to be! Ben has never forgotten Bryony and really wants to win her back again, but can’t blame her for her reticence. He’d been part of her family, a friend to her siblings and regular at their family meals. Her family want to welcome him back again but Bryony feels that is betraying her. How can he win her love again after betraying her so badly when he left? Will her family’s support help or hinder?

There’s another family drama in this story, too, involving a neighbour of Bryony. The braying donkeys, daring egg snatcher, crafty nephew and happy hens all add to the enjoyment in this delightful read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am now looking forward to reading the next book in this series, Scenes from a Country Bookshop!

I requested and was gifted copies of all four books in this series and this is my honest review after choosing to read this one – and I am now really looking forward to reading the next book in this series, Scenes from a Country Bookshop!

Synopsis:

Ben Stratton and Bryony Nightingale. Everybody thought they’d be together forever. But, when Ben leaves the small market town of Castle Clare to travel the world, Bryony is heartbroken, seeing his departure as the ultimate betrayal.

Throwing herself into her work running the much-loved children’s bookshop, Bryony determines to forget Ben and to start dating again. But Ben doesn’t make it easy for her, sending her postcards filled with his love and posting her foreign editions of all the great romantic novels from the countries he’s travelling through.

Then, after six long years, the unexpected happens and Ben returns, determined to win Bryony back. But will she forgive him and does he have the courage to tell her the truth about why he left her?
