#Review for A Cowboy State of Mind by Jennie Marts

Title: A Cowboy State of Mind

Series: Creedence Horse Rescue #1

Author:  Jennie Marts

Publisher: Sourcebooks Casablanca

My Review:

This is an emotive contemporary romance from this talented author. It is a lovely read about two very caring people who have suffered more than their share of drama and abuse in their lives but who always strive to do their best to help others.

Zane Taylor gives Bryn Callahan a lift to town when he spots her walking to work after her car has broken down. She’s a waitress with a heart of gold and when she sees a horse in a filthy trailer she can’t resist trying to rescue it . . . . and Zane can’t resist helping her! That’s how they ended up with their first malnourished horse . . . . yes, their first . . . . there are more to come! Bryn hadn’t planned on starting an animal rescue centre but this is the consequence of her kindly act and Zane is a brillian horse whisperer whose ability to relate to the traumatised animals is brilliant at helping them settle and relate without fear or aggression. As the two work to save the animals, the attraction between them builds but Zane assumes he’s so scarred physically and emotionally that he’ll never be good enough for her. Can love find a way to help them both?

This is a delightful read with such great characters. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it but should also say that It actually had me so angry at the people in this caring community who actually did nothing to story the physical and emotional abuse of Zane Taylor throughout his childhood . . . . I’m still livid about it as I’m writing this, his teachers, peers and neighbours really should have helped protect him from his drunken father! Sorry, rant over, but I’m still fuming, even though I know it is a story – which just goes to show what a great read it is! I can’t wait to read more in this series in future and catch up on everyone in Creedence again.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.
