Hunter’s own secret is exciting and crucial to his future. Will it change his life? And can he keep Edinburgh safe?

My Review:

I am really enjoying going back to catch up on the life and cases of Val Penny’s Detective Inspector (Christian) Hunter Wilson and his team. The books work well as standalones but also make an enthralling series, too, this being the fifth book in the series.

In this story, two of the team, DCs Tim Myerscough and Bear Zewedu, are out training when they discover a dead body. They go to call for help but when they return the body has disappeared. This reminds Hunter of what happened some thirty years ago when he and his younger brother also found a body which also mysteriously disappeared. Could the cases be related?

This is a story in which the bigotry, intolerance and bullying of others demonstrated by some could be key to solving the mystery. It is also one where instincts, local knowledge and familiarity with members of the community are used to brilliant effect. I was so glad when the culprit was identified and arrested!

I’m loving reading this series and have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending it. Now I can’t wait to read the next book to discover just how Hunter’s undercover planning and secret meetings work out for him – so happy they were for such a great reason, I was getting worried! To discover just why, you’ll need to read it for yourself.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.
