Summer at my Sister’s by Emily Harvale #Romance #FamilyDrama #SmallCommunity

Twin sisters. One scorching summer.

A bucketful of secrets.

Diana’s life is perfect. Her twin sister, Josie’s – not so much.

Diana has a rich and successful husband, two talented youngsters and an adorable dog. She always looks as if she’s stepped from the cover of a magazine. Her immaculate second home by the sea, for idyllic summers with her perfect family, was actually featured in one.

Josie has a messy, compact flat, dates, but not relationships, and she can’t even keep a houseplant alive. She moves from job to job, goes clubbing with her friends and often looks as if she’s fallen through a hedge.

Although Josie loves Diana deeply, each year she declines the invitation to spend the summer with her sister. Or any other family holiday. Because Josie has a secret.

But is Diana’s life so perfect? Or is she also hiding something? When secrets are revealed this summer, everything will change. Josie could finally have the life she’s always wanted … if she’s brave enough to take a chance.

My Review:

This is a contemporary family drama with several romances and is a delightful read.

Diana and Josie may well be twins, have the same parents and upbringing but they have very different personalities and lives. Diana is the one who is seen as having the perfect life with a rich, successful surgeon as her husband, two lovely children, three homes and always appears to be immaculate. Josie is her antithesis. She’s single, lives well away from her family, doesn’t stick at one job, enjoys clubbing and rarely looks anywhere near immaculate. However, these thirty-four year old sisters are there for each other, though both have kept secrets from their teenage years . . . . shocking secrets that are revealed in this story . . .

Whenever their Mum calls, Josie knows she’ll be berated and castigated as usual. Doesn’t matter what she does, it will never be as great as anything Diana does. However, when Josie discovers that something is wrong with her twin, she invites herself to spend the summer with the family at their seaside home – the first time that Josie will have been there since she was a teenager who had her heart broken. Will she be able to help Diana? Just what is wrong? You’ll have to read it for yourself to find out!

I really enjoyed reading this story and getting to know the members of Josie’s family, the seaside community and finding out about the secrets from their past. Get ready for a life changing thirty-fifth birthday party, it is certainly one to be remembered for a variety of reasons. I can’t wait to revisit them all again in the next book in this series to find out just how everything works out after the dramatic revelations from this story!
