Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!

#GuestPost by TL Mahrt, author of Within the Shadows #BlogTour

Here is a sneak peek of a book that I am working on. The book is a poetry book for all the daddies girls out there—big or small. The book is titled; The silver lining of tomorrow. I am writing under my maiden name, Traci Mahrt. This book features poems from my Dad, who has passed away ten plus years ago. Before I start, this writing is raw and unedited… Enjoy…

The Silver Lining of Tomorrow

To live the day

Chapter Three

My Daddy was an ornery man but he had wisdom times three. I remember his patience to all the questions I would ask. My eyes the size of saucers and the world a mystery to uncover as I would fill the cab with more questions then a curious cat. I can’t remember a time that he ever denied an answer to me. He had the patience of ten saints.

Did I say that my Daddy was an ornery man? Some of my favorite times, were the games we would play in the tractor.

What about the times, we would have a water fight in the house… Then, mom would threaten to kick us out. But it was hard to take her serious as she’d hide behind her giggles.

The man that shaped me into be who I am today. I wrote you a poem a year after you were stolen…

I can’t look at sunflowers without thinking about your smiling face with the spark that flickered within your eyes as you would hold out flowers in three’s or fives. You always have a way for me to think about you everyday. So, here is my first poem to the man who taught me how to live the day.

Sunflowers…

With their heads high,
They look to the sky,
Standing tall to pray,
As the lord blesses them with more rays,
Their beautiful in every way,
Perfect with yellow flowers,
Moves slowly every hour,
They are a symbol of God,
As they praise him in every way,
I thank god for one more day.

The ways of the Land

Chapter Four

I can close my eyes and fill my lungs and still recall the smell of dirt on my thumbs.

My Daddy was a farmer and knew the way of the land.

We would dance amongst the meadow flowers. His rich tones of his singing still ring in my ears. My daddy taught me the beauty of the lands and all that it brings. It would fill my head with magic and healing as I take in the charm of the sun casting golden rays.

We grew up in the church, even, went to Sunday school every Sunday. I have the attendance pins tucked away in a drawer showing my fifteen years of perfect attendance to Sunday school. We learned about the word of God there in that little white church and I am thankful for it to this day. But, it was in the beauty of the Land and the words of my Daddy’s wisdom that brought me to God and the comfort of God’s healing.

With those times rolling through my head, this is the poem in remembrance, as the butterfly in me is revealing—all from God’s healing.

Butterfly…

Open up my wings,
the color of my King’s,
All the freedom that it brings,
Gliding up so high,
Far into the sky,
To my King I almost spy,
The air fills my lungs,
My heart races with the drums,
Dancing through the meadow flowers,
Singing in the April showers,
My King, my God,
As he blesses me with this freedom feeling,
It’s healing,
The butterfly in me is revealing.

Thank you for letting me share that insight into The Silver Lining of Tomorrow!
