Fantastic read – A Summer to Remember in Herring Bay by Angela Britnell #FamilyDrama #Mystery #Romance

Essy Havers is good at finding things. Her company specialises in helping clients track down anything, from missing china pieces to rare vintage clothing. But now Essy has something more important to find: herself.

Essy has always been curious about her mother’s secret past and her Cornish roots. So, when the opportunity arises, she hops on a plane in Tennessee and ends up in Herring Bay in Cornwall; the village where her mother grew up.

But once there, she’s mystified by the reactions of the villagers when they realise who she is. Was Essy’s decision to visit Cornwall a mistake, or will it lead to a summer she’ll never forget?

My Review:

I read this whilst relaxing in the sunshine and it just seemed so appropriate and heartwarming, I thoroughly enjoyed escaping to Cornwall (and Wales) in this lovely read. It has family mysteries, secrets, surprises and romances in a small, seaside community.

Essy Havers has always been intrigued by her Mum’s background and her home in Herring Bay, despite her Mum refusing to tell her much about her life there and why she left, travelling to live in Tennessee. Her job gives her the opportunity to visit the area and she goes to visit her Aunt Molly, who invites her to stay with her. Herring Bay is a small, run-down community but Essy never guessed how the locals would react when they found out who she is. Lots of people obviously remember her Mum – and not very fondly, either. There’s definitely a mystery about why she left and Essy is determined to get to the bottom of it . . . . but just what will she uncover? Are some secrets better left unknown? Why does Vera Pascow seem to hate Essy?

This is a story packed with family dramas from decades ago, secrets that Essy and Vera’s son, Ruan, decide to work together to uncover. It is a story in which a community is brought back together, fresh starts are made by many, there’s even a second chance romance! It is a heartwarming story that kept me turning the pages. I really hope we get to visit this community again in future as I’d love to know how the project progresses, the impact on the community, what happens to several individuals, etc! That actually gives you an idea of how well this story draws the reader in without revealing any spoilers, I hope! I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending this engaging and highly entertaining story.

Thank you to the ChocLIt for the copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.
