Delightful, colourful book – The Snowman by Raymond Briggs – and great CD reading of it, too!

My Review:

This is a delightful retelling of the classic Raymond Briggs story, complete with beautiful illustrations based on those of the animated film of the story. It also has a CD with two different versions of the story being clearly and expressively read by Matthew Macfadgen. The difference in the two versions is one is a straightforward reading of the book but the other has additional prompts to tell listeners when to turn the page. The CD makes the story more accessible to less able readers and gives more able ones a great model for how to use intonation and expression to make their reading more appealing to the listener. My only problem with it was finding a CD player to use – I can’t remember when we last used it! The target audience for the book is ages 3 – 5 years old but I believe it appeals to a much wider age range and found it a lovely story which could help inspire older children, too.

My thanks for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

Based on the much-loved film, fly away on a magical journey to the magical land of the Snowman, complete with a CD narration of the story for little ones to listen along to!
