Intriguing #Mystery #Thriller – Acts of Kindness by Heather Barnett – #BlogTour

Dream Job. Fresh Start. Big Mistake.

When Bella Black arrives in a sleepy Wiltshire village, it seems like the perfect place for a new start: a lovely home, exciting job and an attractive colleague or two to take her mind off her recent divorce.

When people start disappearing, she realises she holds the key to a mystery bigger than she could have ever imagined.

Who is really pulling the strings at the secretive OAK Institute?

Can anyone be trusted?

Will Bella make the right choices before its too late?

My Review:

This is an intriguing, contemporary, mystery thriller and a great read.

When Bella Black is contacted by a Acorn Consulting and offered what seems like a dream job with a fantastic salary, it is also her chance to escape from London and make a fresh start after her marriage ended in divorce. However, the beautiful location, immaculate bosses and hints about what will happen after her probationary period are slightly worrying. What makes it worse is the strange lady, Maggie Thatcher, who turned up soon after Bella moved into her new home, a lady who came bearing a gift – knickers – and a warning about danger at Bella’s new place of work! When she learns that people are disappearing, the mystery deepens. Can she help find the missing people? What is happening to them? Just who can she trust?

The acts of kindness are key to the story but there are hidden connotations and plenty of surprises in this fun mystery thriller and it is a fantastic debut novel. This is an entertaining read, with mystery, suspense and danger to keep you guessing combined with a sprinkling of humour to put a smile on your face. It has a great mix of characters, though it is sometimes difficult to ascertain just who is on the side of good as appearances so often prove deceptive and motives are open to misinterpretation.  I can’t wait to read more by this author in future! If you enjoy stories where the best of intentions can lead astray, where the mysteries are hidden and need to be uncovered, grab yourself a copy of this book!

Thanks for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

Author Bio –

Heather Barnett gained a degree in English and French from the University of Leeds and has written ever since: from copywriting to stand-up comedy and sketches. She is now focusing on writing novels. Heather’s influences span Jane Austen and Douglas Adams at one end of the alphabet through to PG Wodehouse at the other.

Heather’s debut novel, Acts of Kindness, is an uplifting, light-hearted mystery. It was inspired by witnessing commuters helping a woman who’d fallen down the stairs at Paddington station; intermingled with wondering what was behind some grand stone gateposts that she used to drive past in Wiltshire.

Her second novel, Lord Seeks Wife, is a romantic comedy and will be published summer 2021.

Aside from writing, Heather’s interests are classic literature, cats and comedy.

Heather is head of marketing at an agency near Oxford and lives by the river Kennet in Berkshire.
