Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!
I think I must be on a roll with reading fantastic books – today’s blog tour review is for another intriguing police procedural crime thriller that’s a fabulous read!
Title: Save Her Child
Series: Jericho and Wright #3
Author: CJ Lyons
What an action packed, suspense filled thriller this proved to be – a brilliant page-turner that I thoroughly enjoyed and really can’t recommend highly enough!
Detective Luka Jericho is the lead in the Violent Crimes Unit of Cambria City, Pennsylvania PD whilst Dr Leah Wright now heads up the Crisis Intervention Center and the two have worked closely together in the past. This story involves Leah finding a frightened young woman giving birth who then disappears. Meanwhile, Luka is called to investigate the death of a wealthy man discovered in his closed garage, sat in his car with its engine still running and Naomi investigates the brutal murder of a woman in an alley. Whilst these seem disparate events, Reverend Harper knows at least two of the victims but refuses to help their investigations – even when asked by his adopted daughter, Naomi Harper, who is the latest recruit to Luka’s team. Can Naomi solve her first case as lead detective? Can they find the missing Mum and son and get them to safely? How is Reverend Harper involved? What really happened to the man in the car?
This story is told from the points of view of Luka, Leah and Naomi. It is an intense and intriguing story, one that keeps you guessing. I really liked how the children helped in the investigation and started to open up about their feelings and the revelations regarding Naomi’s upbringing and adoptive parental attitudes. The story is a tangled web, with three seemingly isolated investigations but the separate threads are skilfully woven into a superb read to keep you guessing and turning the pages. It is a story of greed, scams, betrayal, religious fervour and relationships. It is a story where the need to protect members of your family at all costs conflict with the desire for truth and justice, but you’ll have to read it for yourself to discover which wins in the end!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read, couldn’t put down and honestly reviewed.
She held her baby in her arms and she knew in that moment that he’d be coming for her. She couldn’t tell anyone her name, she couldn’t let him find her. She had to keep her child safe.
In the summer heat at the Craven County Fair in rural Pennsylvania, Dr Leah Wright is shocked to find a pregnant woman hiding from view and in labor. Leah manages to deliver the baby safely, but the woman won’t reveal her name. She’s terrified, running from someone, and days later both she and her newborn son go missing…
Desperate to save them, Leah turns to Detective Luka Jericho for help. Eager for Leah’s help with a complex case of his own, Luka asks Leah to interview the widow of a man who has just been murdered. Soon they uncover a shocking connection between the two cases: the widow’s lawyer, a local minister, Reverend Harper, was spotted driving the missing mother away from hospital. Is this the man she was so afraid of?
When Reverend Harper refuses to talk, Luka and Leah turn to the only person who he might speak to: his daughter and Luka’s newest detective, Naomi Harper. But Naomi’s childhood in her father’s stark white house up in the mountains was more painful than Luka and Leah could ever have imagined. Is it already too late to save the woman and her baby?
