Amazing read – Family Secrets at Hedgehog Hollow by Jessica Redland

Every family has its secrets, and at Hedgehog Hollow there is no exception…

It was always Samantha’s dream to run her beautiful rescue centre, Hedgehog Hollow, full-time. But just as her wish comes true, she becomes a victim of her own kindness when she finds herself with a house full of guests – all with their own problems and secrets – looking to her for support.

When her self-absorbed cousin, Chloe, unexpectedly turns up at the farm – swiftly handing over her baby to Samantha to care for – trouble is definitely brewing. Especially as Chloe won’t tell anyone why she’s left her husband, James…

As Samantha juggles new hedgehog arrivals, family dramas and her own health challenges, it soon becomes clear that she needs to start putting herself first for once. Little does she know that life-changing secrets from the past are about to unravel and turn their lives upside down…

Return to glorious Hedgehog Hollow with top 10 bestseller Jessica Redland for a heartwarming, emotional but uplifting story of family, friendship and moving on from the past.

My Review:

I’m still reeling from all the emotion and drama in this superb story which certainly lives up to its title – and that ending!!! It seems inadequate to say this is an emotive family drama, it just doesn’t express how engaging and moving the story is. It starts with an unexpected guest arriving, has all the problems with keeping secrets, relationships disintegrating, and is a story packed with all the shocking revelations from the past, their impact and the drama of the present skilfully interwoven into a book I just didn’t want to put down. Actually, having read the ending, I’m also now eagerly anticipating reading the sequel – I can’t wait!

The story has great characters and they are so well portrayed that it was easy to reconnect with them again. Whilst I think it may be enjoyed as a standalone, I would suggest that it is even better when you’ve previously read the earlier two books and know about the characters. There is so much character development in this story and I’ve totally changed my mind about one of them now I’ve discovered her history – it explains so much! The story deals with some sensitive issues in a caring and supportive manner. On top of all that there are, of course, the hedgehogs and hoglets! I continue to learn more about the amazing work of rescue centres and their care for these endangered animals through this story. There are even some facts and tips at the end to add to your knowledge and understanding of hedgehogs. Altogether this is an amazing addition to this series and one that has left me desperate to read the next instalment in the lives of everyone connected to Hedgehog Hollow.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for my copy of this brilliant book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.
