The House in the Clouds is the first novel in a brand new trilogy from the bestselling author of The Rose Girls and The Book Lovers series.
Artist Abigail Carey has always dreamed of a life in the country and, when Winfield Hall comes up at auction, she’s desperate to make the place her home. The only trouble is that businessman, Edward Townsend, has exactly the same idea.
With its position high on the Sussex Downs, Winfield is a stunning house, but it hasn’t been a home for a long time and there’s a lot of work to do to restore it to its former glory. It’s going to take a lot of time and money, so Edward and Abi decide to take a risk and share the house, each living in their own wing.
But can these two strangers agree on a vision that suits them both? And will free-spirited Abi ever get the rather reserved Edward to reveal the secret he’s been hiding for so long?
This story starts with a fabulous home, Winfield Hall, going under the hammer and two folks vying to purchase it. The successful bidder is business man, Edward Townsend, but a change in his circumstances and with costs mounting for the property’s renovation, he suggests the unsuccessful bidder purchases half the property. She’s Abigail Carey, an artist and highly successful entrepreneur, and Winfield Hall is her dream home and they quickly agree terms.
However, the two know very little about each other and the book explores their interactions with each other, their families and others in the local area and gives glimpses into their pasts. The setting is idyllic but the house needs lots of work to make it all habitable. Exploring the grounds and area, meeting their close families, learning what they are like make this is really gentle introduction, a very relaxing read as they change the pace of their lives. Remember this is the first book in a new trilogy, so don’t expect everything to be sorted by the end of this book, however it is an engaging read which has me keen to read the next two books in the trilogy – as soon as possible, please!
Thank you for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.
