Where did you get the inspiration for the book/series?
For The Ultimate Village Game, life in general, people and their imperfections influenced the story. The novel is inspired by life’s nuances, the things that go on behind closed doors, impressions, the past a person may choose to keep hidden. What goes on in a person’s head is key, explosive thoughts, dwelling on a thought but not speaking of it or dealing with it, the distortion or misinterpretation of a memory that may lead a person’s mind who knows where.
What is your writing process?
I have a rough idea of what is going to happen, but the story develops along the way too. The characters may want a say. They need to be managed. They can have their own ideas and might sometimes force the story down a different path!
Do you write using pen and paper or on a computer?
Mostly my trusty laptop. But I may scribble notes onto a pad as well.
Who is your favourite character out of your stories and why?
I like Lucy, who is the protagonist of The Ultimate Village Game. She has shortfalls. She’s somewhat damaged. She has a battle going on in her head. All of this makes her a more interesting person to write, also a more challenging person to understand and authenticate.
If you were a character in your story, which would you like to be?
I wouldn’t want to be Lucy! I think I’d be Jenny. Her life seems more straight forward and easier to live.
How and why did you choose the names for your main characters?
I’m not exactly sure. I try to give them names that suit them. Occasionally I re-christen a character half way through. If I’m stuck, I might pick up a magazine or newspaper and use names from the articles, a first name from one column, a family name from another.
Thank you for having me on Splashes and Books.
Totally my pleasure to host you – thank you for answering my questions!

Riddled with guilt and tormented by desire, Lucy Short keeps notes about newcomers to the village, but why? The misfit with the rescue dog has a mysterious past. She’s been biding her time, plotting and scheming, and now she’s determined to get what she deserves. It won’t be straight forward. Someone is sure to be watching her every move, and there seems to be something more sinister going on.
Mr. Lester Senior is dead. The family is in turmoil. The future of the famous village treasure hunt is in doubt, but for Lucy a new world beckons. She must stick to her task. The rewards could be huge, but will there also be a price to pay?
