Aurora Firedrake returns in the spellbinding sequel to The Last of the Firedrakes.

The seven kingdoms of Avalonia are crumbling and evil is spreading across the land like a plague. Queen Morgana is close to finding a way to open The Book of Abraxas and it’s only a matter of time until she uses the power trapped inside its pages to enslave the entire world.

With Avalonia growing more dangerous by the day, Aurora must travel through war-torn lands and deep into the heart of the fae kingdom of Elfi. Her goal is to find a legendary weapon infused with the last of the realm’s ancient magic—the only weapon in the world powerful enough to stop the queen.

Aurora might have survived her first battle against Morgana, but the true fight to save her kingdom and restore her throne has only just begun…

My Review:

This is the long awaited, fast-paced, action packed fantasy and enthralling sequel to the brilliant ‘The Last of the Firedrakes‘, which I originally read and reviewed back in 2015. It continues the story of Aurora Firedrake as the teenager strives to save both her mother and the seven kingdoms whilst also thwarting the plans of the evil Queen Morgana. Aurora has to journey through war ravaged lands to recover a legendary weapon which is purported to be the only weapon strong enough to stop the Queen. She has learnt not to be quite so naive but who can she trust? There are dangers all around her and even those she does trust may have other motives and double cross her. The first battle may have been won, but there are many more battles to be fought before this war will be over . . . .

The second book in a series often struggles to achieve the same standards as the first but that is not so in this case. The author has created a mythical world with great intrigue and characters, all of whom are brought vividly to life within the pages of this story. The challenges which Aurora faces, the dilemmas and unexpected twists and turns keep the reader on the edge of their seat throughout the story. Even the ending has such a twist, one that left me really wanting to know what happens in the next part of this series – I can’t wait to read it!

If you enjoy stories permeated with ancient magical forces, royal intrigues and double crossing betrayals, look no further. This is a superbly crafted series that I have no hesitation in highly recommending – I just hope we don’t need to wait two years for the sequel!
