Somewhere to review books I'm reading without giving away any spoilers!

Lovely #Interview with Sofia Due, author of Finding Jack

Please welcome Sofia Due here today
And have a read at what she has to say
About her inspiration and her book.
Then continue down to take a look
That'll give you a chance to find out more
About both her and her book - enjoy and explore!

Where did you get the inspiration for the book?

I wanted to explore how someone recovers from a traumatic experience or heartbreak and how even though the last thing they think they need is another person with a problem, making that journey together might be the thing that keeps them going. Having worked (in my job as a lawyer) with a lot of people who’ve been through war and loss, and having experience loss myself, I wanted to take characters with those backgrounds and explore how they might heal.

What is your writing process?

I both plot and pants. I start with an outline of the main character and their opposite number and the problem I want to solve and then an idea of where I want the story to start. I start writing when I know the direction of the story and a rough idea of events but before I’ve got every scene planned out and then I add in scenes or placeholders for scenes until I’ve got a first draft. I then plot it in finer detail when I’ve got the sketchy first draft.  I keep a separate document with the timeline – which changes often.

Do you write using pen and paper or on a computer?

I have handwritten notes in a notebook but I write on a laptop. I like Scrivener as I find it easy to move scenes around and plan the story outline.

Who is your favourite character out of your stories and why?

I can’t pick one. They’re like family now. I hope though I grow into being Marion.

How and why did you choose the names for your main characters?

I chose the name Gennie because she needed to have a name that could be misunderstood to disguise her identity a bit. Her full name is Genevieve. I chose the name Jack as it’s short and snappy and I could imagine people shouting his name – for every reason, whether to save him or yell at him. At the start of the story, Jack has a reputation for creating waves.

Thank you for answering my questions – I enjoyed reading your replies!

Read on to find out more about Finding Jack

How do you get over the loss of your husband? And not only your husband but your home too and all the trappings of your old existence?

Gennie moves back to Cornwall in search of a fresh start. Working for Marion’s children’s charity seems perfect. Tucked away in the countryside, close to an artists’ community, it’s a place for Gennie and her daughter, Alice, to rebuild their lives in peace and quiet – until ex-soldier Jack comes along with the same idea in mind, a face from the past, forcing Gennie to confront things she would rather forget and igniting fears of another turbulent relationship.

Involving herself with Jack and his problems is the last thing she needs, not now she’s made new friends and opportunities are opening up again, but can either find happiness and a new direction without the other?
